Leland Speech & Debate

Although not engineering-related, Speech & Debate has always been a big part of my life. I competed in extemporaneous speaking and parliamentary debate throughout high school, eventually finishing in 8th place in extemporaneous speaking at the California state championship tournament. After high school, I was able to stick around and serve as a volunteer debate coach, providing instruction and individual coaching to incoming speech & debate students. The delayed start of the quarter system at UCLA allowed me to work in person in Fall 2018 and 2019 and continue virtually afterwards. I was able to travel with students to debate tournaments in Southern California, serving as a coach and judging rounds.

Since I'll be moving closer to where I went to high school soon, I hope to becoming involved again in coaching debate!
